With today being the best day for weather this week and Velothon Wales coming up on Sunday I needed to get out for a longish ride on my bike. It’s also a good chance to put the new Roubaix through it’s paces too!
I opted for a route I’d planned a few weeks ago to Dearnford and then looping round through Wales to Ellesmere and then back home via Wem. All of it was on country lanes, which took some planning!
I was going to ride right past Dearnford Lake but opted to stop for a coffee and then could not resist a piece of delicious cake while I was there. I have absolutely no will power!
After Deranford the roads were all new so I was really looking forward to it. Also the first time I’ve ridden in Wales.
The first part took me along part of the Mercian Way, a long distance cycle path between Bewdley and Chester.
Absolutely loved the ride through Wales on all new roads for me. Most were really good but a couple of short sections were a bit gravelly and with a few potholes to dodge. Nothing too bad though.
All to soon I arrived in Ellesmere and stopped at the Boat House by the Mere for some lunch. I’d heard good things about this cafe and was not disappointed. Lovely food and a perfect setting.
After lunch I headed back down the lanes past the lovely Colemere and onwards to Wem, where I visited our sponsors our for some much needed refreshment.
From Wem it was an easy ride home via the lanes and Stanton in the Line Heath.
An asbolutely stunning ride out in glorious sun and in gorgeous countryside. I may well have found my new favourite ride!
