We got back from holiday early yesterday morning and had arranged to meet with Tim at 2 pm to do a ride to Dearnford Lake, but things at home got in the way and I could not get out.
Tim suggested an 80 mile ride out to a nice cafe he knows in Gobowen, near Oswestry and so we met at his house in Newport at 10:30 am and set off.
The route took us down through Donnington to Wellington and then onwards in lovely countryside and down quite a few new lanes for me and cycling. The weather was about as perfect as it gets too, with lots of sunshine and virtually no wind.
The cafe stop was about 44 miles into the ride and as promised, it was really nice. Great home cooked food, great prices and a lovely place to sit outside in the sun and eat.
After the cafe stop, we made our way back to Newport via Ellesmere and Wem. The only thing of note was me hitting a big stone in the road just before Ellesmere and somehow staying on the bike. I could swear at one point the bike was going sidewards as I struggled to regain control. Phew!
We ended up with nearly 84 miles on the clock as we had to divert via home as I’d had a call that our dog had been found wandering on a local lane and I needed to pop by and check he was ok.
A really lovely ride and out to an area totally new to me. Loved it!
