Nova Raiders

I’m a very proud member of the Nova Raiders Cycling Club, based in Newport, Shropshire.

The club is Sponsored by Joule’s Brewery (a local brewery in Market Drayton). How cool is that, having a brewery sponsor my club!

The club was originally formed by a small band of friends whose idea was to use cycling to raise money for good causes. It has grown into a social riding community that welcomes riders of all ages and abilities.

True to the original club vision Nova Raiders still host regular events in order to raise money for good causes. Money will typically be raised through the Route 66 Sportive, the club Reliability Ride and the Giro de Joules Sportive in September, amongst other things.

The club typically offers up to 10 or more group rides per week to cover all ability levels. Typically rides are on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights and then Saturday and Sunday morning. Most times we have a steady (14-15mph but goes at the pace of the slowest rider, so everyone is welcome), intermediate (16-17mph) and fast (20mph+) groups going out. Often other ad-hoc rides are organised through the club Facebook page and / or the club mailing list.

I’ve not heard of many clubs offering such a wide range of rides throughout the week and suitable for all levels of ability!

The added bonus is I’ve not met a more friendly and welcoming group of people. We have regular socials in the New Inn in Newport, typically after midweek rides but also after the longer rides on Sunday.

Absolutely love it!
